TYPHOON

TYPHOON

The TYPHOON® brand offers a complete line of positive-pressure fans designed for industrial professionals and firefighters. Five complementary power sources— internal combustion, electric, hydraulic/ATEX, SmokeEjector, and battery —allow users to select the exact unit suited to the energy available on-site and the level of risk. Used for degassing, purging, ventilating confined spaces, or smoke extraction, these fans comply with the DIN 14963 standard, with the most sensitive hydraulic versions certified to ATEX EX II 2GD.

TYPHOON®

Operational ventilation, designed by Renz GmbH.

From its manufacturing facility inEppertshausen, Germany, Renz GmbH designs and manufactures the TYPHOON® line: a family of positive-pressure ventilators intended for industrial professionals and fire and emergency services.

Rather than a single model available in multiple sizes, the brand has developed five distinct motor lines, each designed to address a specific on-site challenge rather than a generic application. This design choice underpins the entire range: the right unit depends less on its rated power than on the energy actually available at the scene.

Two worlds, one standard

The TYPHOON® line is designed for two audiences with very different constraints, united by the same demand for reliability:

  • Fire and rescue services (SDIS, professional and volunteer firefighters), who use the fans for tactical smoke extraction, securing access points, and assisting with fire suppression;
  • Industrial professionalsin the petrochemical, food processing, water treatment, and construction sectors—who use them for ventilating confined spaces, degassing tanks, or ensuring safety during work in high-risk areas.

A single unit can thus be used on an industrial job site and then in an emergency response without compromising safety standards.

What is a positive-pressure fan used for?

A TYPHOON® fan does not cool a room: it is used to quickly remove air from a space to make it accessible or safe. Specifically, it is used to:

  • De-gas an industrial tank or reservoir before maintenance, inspection, or cleaning operations;
  • Purge an ATEX-classified area at risk of explosion before hot work (welding, grinding);
  • Ventilate a confined space —such as a silo, sewer system, or pumping station—before a worker enters;
  • Clear smoke from a building after or during a fire to restore visibility and lower the temperature;
  • Secure an access point by clearing smoke and toxic gases from a room or stairwell;
  • Temporarily extract smoke or vapors from an industrial facility without pressurizing the entire space.

The common thread among all these applications: rapidly replacing contaminated air (smoke, gases, vapors, heat) with breathable air to enable safe human intervention—whether as part of a scheduled maintenance operation or during a fire emergency.

Five motor options, five solutions

What energy sources are actually available at this site?

01 — Thermal

Gasoline-powered engine, fully self-contained and requiring no infrastructure. This is the solution of choice when no power source is available on-site. However, it generates noise and exhaust fumes, which limits its use in confined or occupied spaces.

02 — Electric

A quiet, zero-emission motor, with adjustable output via a variable-speed drive on certain models. It is particularly suitable for indoor operations or in occupied areas, provided a power outlet is available on-site.

03 — Hydraulic & ATEX

A water-turbine-driven motor with no ignition source. It is the only motor in the range suitable for areas at risk of explosion (ATEX), provided there is a water source or a pump to supply it.

04 — SmokeEjector

Operates by targeted suction rather than blowing: stale air is extracted directly, rather than being forced back into the space. Some models can be paired with a water spray system to suppress smoke or particles.

05 — Battery

Battery-powered, requiring no electrical connections or hookups; operational as soon as it is removed from the vehicle. It is suitable for emergency response operations requiring immediate deployment, with a limited runtime.

Standardized sizes according to DIN 14963

The entire product line complies with DIN 14963, the European standard that classifies operational fans by size and power source. This standard specifically defines outlet diameter classes and associated flow rate ranges, allowing for an objective comparison of units from different brands based on identical criteria. These details are not mere marketing claims: they are verifiable technical data provided as-is by the manufacturer for each product.

Manufacturing

Every TYPHOON® fan is designed, assembled, and tested at the Eppertshausen production facility. This direct control over manufacturing—rather than outsourcing to off-site contractors—enables Renz GmbH to guarantee consistency in materials and manufacturing tolerances from one unit to the next, as well as precise tracking of product line updates over the years.

The same TYPHOON® hydraulic fan can be used to degas an industrial tank one day and to ventilate smoke from a building the next—with the same uncompromising safety standards, regardless of the environment in which it is used.
