Description

On a boat, a cut or injury can occur far from a first-aid station and in an environment where supplies are regularly exposed to moisture. The first-aid kit for recreational boats therefore combines first-aid supplies tailored to maritime conditions with a container designed to withstand the demands of the marine environment.

Made of fluorescent green PVC, the kit is advertised by Farmor as waterproof and leak-proof. Its carabiner allows it to be secured to a specific location so that it remains accessible and does not shift around with the other onboard equipment.

A kit designed for onboard safety equipment

French regulations applicable to recreational vessels specify a minimum contents list for first-aid kits for certain categories of navigation. Article 240-2.19 of Division 240 specifically defines the required items: adhesive tape, sterile gauze pads, waterproof adhesive bandages, hemostatic pad, adhesive bandage, gloves, hand sanitizer, a survival blanket, and chlorhexidine.

Farmor presents this kit as a regulation-compliant set designed to meet these requirements for the relevant recreational boating activities.

On board, handling ropes, equipment, tools, or metal parts can cause cuts. This kit provides several levels of care: adhesive bandages for small wounds, sterile compresses for protection, and a hemostatic pad when pressure is needed.

Bandages, adhesive tape, and gloves round out this kit, providing the essential items for securing, supporting, and protecting wounds—all in a single kit.

Moisture protection and on-board identification

The contents of a nautical first-aid kit are only part of the equation: its container must also be able to withstand the conditions encountered on board. Waterproof and watertight PVC helps protect the contents from moisture and water splashes.

The fluorescent green color makes it easy to spot the kit among the bags and equipment on board. The carabiner allows you to secure it in a fixed, easily accessible location.

Support and Securing Strips

The kit includes both a 4 m × 10 cm crepe bandage and a cohesive bandage of the same size. These complement the adhesive tape to provide various support and securing functions depending on the treatment being administered.

One particular advantage of the cohesive bandage is that it adheres to itself without requiring adhesive to be applied directly to the skin.

Hand Hygiene Before First Aid

A 100-ml bottle of hydroalcoholic gel is included in the kit. It provides a hand hygiene solution when a suitable water source is not immediately available on board.

The 10 pairs of disposable gloves provide additional protection when administering first aid.

A survival blanket to round out the kit

The survival blanket included in the kit provides temporary thermal protection in addition to the products for treating wounds and bleeding.

Its inclusion is particularly important in a maritime environment where wind, humidity, and exposure can quickly intensify the sensation of cold.

Keep the kit accessible and check its contents

A nautical first-aid kit must remain easily accessible and not be buried under other onboard equipment. The carabiner makes it easy to secure the kit in a designated area of the boat.

You should also periodically check the condition of the container as well as the expiration dates of the various supplies, and immediately replace any used or damaged items.
